Sarah Hughes Back on Great Neck Ice

Olympic champion and Great Neck skating legend participates in local event Sunday.

Olympic figure skating champion Sarah Hughes participated in a Great Neck Figure Skating Club event Sunday.

"So much fun at Great Neck FSC's @USFigureSkatingSkateFest this morning - loved performing alongside the Skyliners & Team Image!" Hughes tweeted Jan. 13.

Hughes, the 2002 Olympic gold medalist and 2001 world bronze medalist in ladies singles, is a graduate of Great Neck North High School and Yale University.

John Hughes, Sarah's father, was captain of the NCAA champion Cornell University ice hockey team during the 1969-70 season. 

The champion figure skater was with her hockey-playing father at the event this past weekend.

With "my awesome dad," said Sarah Hughes in another tweet.

Hughes' younger sister, Emily, competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

The Great Neck Figure Skating Club is Long Island's oldest figure skating club, according to its website. Since 1950, the club has promoted all levels of professional and amateur figure skating.
