Report: Kaiman on Short Candidate List to Head LIPA

North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman is on a short list of candidates for the chief executive position at the Long Island Power Authority, according to a Newsday report.

Kaiman, a longtime resident of Great Neck, has served as supervisor in North Hempstead since January 1, 2004. He is a Democrat.

The appointment of a new LIPA chief, which has yet to be finalized by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's office, could come as early as Oct. 2, according to Newsday.

Kaiman, 50, serves as the chairman of the town’s Solid Waste Management Authority, Commissioner of the Great Neck North Water Authority, a board member of the Long Island Regional Planning Council and as a board member of the Association of a Better Long Island. He is a former trustee of Temple Israel of Great Neck.

After serving since 2007, former LIPA head Kevin Law left in September 2010 to head up the Long Island Association.

LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric utility, provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Suffolk and Nassau counties, and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.
