'Your Big Break' Finals Saturday

Five acts competing at Great Neck Arts Center for top prize.

The Great Neck Arts Center will host the finals of the "Your Big Break" talent contest Saturday.

Opening showcases for the event were held Dec. 15 and Jan. 12. The finalists from the two shows include Youth Be Told, Jillian Rae, Andrew Gabriel and Yael Lerato.

All four artists plus the audience choice winner, DOINK, will be back at March 2 to perform one more time for the judges. One will be crowned the 2013 champion.

Two thirds of the judging criteria will be based on performance, raw talent and overall presentation of songs. The remaining one third, will be based on voting from event-goers. As attendees enter the room, they will be given a ballot with the names of the finalists to be turned in after the final act has performed. 

Confirmed guest judges will include: Guy Brogna from All Music, Rich Pawelcyzk of Webster Hall, David Caggiano of Betamax Recording Studios and Tito Batista of Black Rose Productions.

Prizes include recording and rehearsal time, photo and video shoots, publicity and promotion, radio and TV campaigns, musical equipment — a chance to open for national acts at major venues, according to event organizers.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults.
