Empty in Great Neck: Deserted Shops

What should be done to fix this Great Neck Village eyesore?

Walk down Middle Neck Road in Great Neck Village and you will notice empty storefronts adorned with "For Rent" signs, a possible indication of the hard economic times the area is facing.

Over the next few months, Great Neck Patch will spotlight these vacant properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab some of these these abandoned places.

This week Patch directs your attention to an unsightly area of Great Neck Village on Middle Neck Road that seems to be dying out.

Just a short walk from multi-million dollar homes of Kings Point sits a strip mall littered with trash, dilapidated storefronts and empty former business locations — some empty for nearly a year.

Most noticeable of the three vacant locations which sit next to each other is the Village Coffee Shop at 641 Middle Neck.

The storefront of the former site of Sarida Pool & Spasl at 643 Middle Neck Road is looks un-kept with the awning peeling off.

At 645 Middle Neck Rd., the empty former site of Taylor & Co. has been vacant for nearly a year after the owners moved out in November of 2011.
