'LIPA Style' Video Chides Company's Storm Response

West Babylon radio station produces "Gangham Style" video parody.

Long Islanders are finding interesting ways to protest the Long Island Power Authority's recovery efforts following superstorm Sandy.

A video, created by Long Island radio station 106.1 BLI, uses a "Gangnam Style" parody to rip LIPA for its failure to have power fully restored to many area residents.

Thousands have remained without power since the storm struck Oct. 29.

The "Gangnam Style" video craze was made famous by a Korean rapper Psy. Parodies have been especially popular on college campuses in 2012.

My husband is there helping from Los Angeles ca. They are trying there best to restore power. I am very great full to all the people of Levittown ny, for being so kind to them and we all hope things get better soon!
Susan Gill November 13, 2012 at 05:33 am
Sorry Kate but this comes with the territory. Your husband works for a company that failed in their response to the people who pay the highest energy bills in the entire USA. When you pay that much money to a monopoly the least you expect is prompt service and honest communication. LIPA , warned by Governor Cuomo, that they would have to provide better information to customers which they failed to do. What is an insult, madame, is the way LIPA treated those who pay them and pay them very well.
Susan Gill November 13, 2012 at 05:39 am
Let's face it. LIPA failed miserably in their response to customers. For Long Islanders who depend upon electricity to live normal lives, every LIPA employee who has no answers to give becomes a point of contention. I was out of power for 8 days and had the responsibility of caring for my 90 year old father. One day I stopped by a crew of LIPA workers and asked them when they thought they would be on my street which was about 5 blocks from where they were. They told me they didn't know. How can they have not known? You would have to have some kind of plan of attack, but it seems that there was no plan and no one supervising. There is simply no excuse.
Rob V. November 13, 2012 at 08:16 am
The crews from all over the country and Canada have been wonderful! After 12 days with no power, they were the only ones that communicated with us.
In my opinion, power should have been shut off at the homes of senior management. Their power goes back on after everyone else has their power back. Let them have no lights, rotten food, and cold nights. I believe had we done this during hurricane Irene last year, they would have been better prepared for hurricane Sandy.
Lindsey Booth November 13, 2012 at 09:45 am
Ohh BS... I highly doubt that. I hope just for that Irene...Your lovely power doesn't get restored for another week. Those guys are working 16 hours a day...7 days a week, and most of staying in tractor trailors turned into bunks....Maybe that's why they aren't so friendly??? Also, maybe the fact that people are literally attacking them and beating them over their power is somewhat of an issue. Boo freakin' hoo you haven't had power for two weeks. I grew up in WV, and that was normal when we had a major snow storm. I am not defending the CEO and head of LIPA. They do seem like they need a reorganization because they obviously weren't prepared. Also, knowing what town you are in has NOTHING to do with fixing a freakin' power line. Those men have drove long distances to come and help people like you get their power back, and all you can do it bitch. They have NOTHING to do with LIPA. They are there to help inconsiderate people like YOU. So your welcome. :D

I expected an intelligent media response to an event that has ruined peoples homes and lives. If you can comprehend the total destruction and life changing event that happened along the shore in each neighborhood, you would condemn any parody associated to the event that even cost the lives of human beings.someones family member. Absolutely no humor exist in tragedy. WBLI should go to any waterfront community and donate generators and garage brooms to all the homeowners. How embarassing they are of a radio station to be here on Long Island. They are a blemish on the property they broadcast from..

Yesterday our power returned. I spent two days watching The linesman who were polite And very hardworking. They were a crew from Massachusettes and when I talked to them and told them how appreciative we were of their efforts, all ten of them smiled broadly. The head guy was so grateful for the positive response saying " thank you. We really feel good when you let us know we are making you happy" It takes just a word or two.

LIPA failed do do any upgrades to their archaic system even though they were repeatedly warned & PROMISED to make changes, that is the issue. We pay them plenty for their archaic system & they continue to blow money on high paid, do nothing execs & their politically appointed friends in PATRONAGE JOBS.
Telling folks to suck it up & "be prepaired" is highly inappropriate. Some of us know how poorly this company is run, fraud against all of us, imo.
just1nptmom November 13, 2012 at 01:49 pm
Please realize that CUOMO is ultimatly to blame for this fiasco. LIPA is run by NY state politicians & their friends in PATRONAGE JOBS on that useless board of directors. Cuomo shot his mouth off after Irene & promised changes, absolutely nothing changed.
Cuomo can try as hard as he likes to distance his affiliation with lipa but the buck stops with HIM His only interest is in salvaging his presidential run in 2016. How anyone can vote for that fraud/liar to be president is beyond me. Don't believe it? Look up lipas structure, all politcal appointments, all patronage jobs for big bucks & NY state pensions. Betch they "contribute" millions to Andy's campaign fund. They don't give a darn about us, the CUSTOMERS, only their political careers & patronage jobs. THATS where all OUR money is going. It's time everyone woke up to this fraud that has been perpetuated against us since MARIO Cuomo threw us all under the bus decades ago.

LINDSEY BOOTH.. hahhahaaa.. you said it perfectly.. these people are really pathetic. they have no clue
just1nptmom November 13, 2012 at 02:22 pm
Agree!!!
just1nptmom November 13, 2012 at 02:29 pm
jc
It's lipas thieving mgmt we have a problem with, not the boots on the ground. & yes, I have put in those kind of hours as well, working for a different organization.. lipas mgmt needs to go all those patronage jobs at the top with NY state pensions for doing nothing need to go Cuomo the liar/incompetent "leader" needs to go.
just1nptmom November 13, 2012 at 02:34 pm
Maybe her bogus job is to analyze food safety after everyone's food has spoiled from lack of power... just a guess but obviously a PATRONAGE JOB that should be illegal.
Since lipa clearly stated they don't reimburse for spoiled food, WHY does this woman have a job and a NY state pension???
jc November 13, 2012 at 02:36 pm
i agree just1nptmom, but the video is making fun of the workers on the street, alot of comments i see everywhere are about the workers that are busting their asses. and yes if some have attitudes it is b/c some have been beat up on the street, threatened, etc. it is horrible what they have to deal with. and everyone complaining about no power, it could have been far worse for them.
Alyssa November 13, 2012 at 03:14 pm
Umm- its a PARODY! It's a joke people- have a sense of humor. Yes it sucks that this happened and we all know that LIPA workers are out there working hard. Maybe the company itself wasn't prepared but its not the individual workers' fault. WE ALL know that. Still, we can all use a laugh in hard times.
Frank November 13, 2012 at 04:40 pm
@ just1nptmom
I have no idea. But as you can see by the multitude of posts, it doesn't seem to bother people. it's either "the governor" or "LIPA CEO". but that's the media for you. they are not doing their job. there should be an expose on LIPA Board Members and the Sandy aftermath. NBC, CNN, ABC, FOX all should be digging into the truth as to why LIPA failed. but since that would entail questioning the entire State assembly and senate, that made be career suicide for many. How about Arnold Diaz? Do a "Shame Shame Shame" on the LIPA Board. Ask them how their education and experience translate to overseeing a major utility? Big ratings my friend.
Mom of 3 November 13, 2012 at 04:57 pm
I agree it's a parody..People need a sense of humor during this terrible time..
just1nptmom November 13, 2012 at 05:08 pm
@ Frank
Thats EXACTLY why ALL the politicians are silent on this including Cuomo who continues to pretend he's not involved. He is in bed with the power industry in NY & does not want to be exposed It will be career suicide for all of them. Anyone who thinks NYS politicians are not making money off our power supply in any way, shape or form is VERY naive. This issue needs to go nation wide so the rest of the country finds out what a fraud NY state government is..
just1nptmom November 13, 2012 at 05:14 pm
I have no opinion about the video. I wasn't sure if they were real lipa folks or just actors.
My beef is with the mgmt & above wasting our money for decades of no improvements while they shell out big bucks for patronage jobs & then cry poverty. If I want to make a political contribution to a politician, I'll write a check. I don't like the fact that my utility checks end up lining the pockets of politicians & their cronies.
coach November 13, 2012 at 05:38 pm
I agree also it's a parody...it is done all the time. We need to have a sense of humor to keep us going during this terrible time. Many of us heeded the warnings and were prepared(but not for 13 days or longer), but LIPA, obviously did not heed the warnings and were not prepared and got caught with their pants down. We still need to remember those who do not have power and won't because of all the water damage done to the electrical systems. We STILL need to help our neighbors any way we can!
Lindsey Booth November 13, 2012 at 05:44 pm
They really don't! They also don't take into account that these guys have left their families to come and help people who are ungrateful like her. It's been almost a month for most of us!
channula November 13, 2012 at 07:12 pm
They had power for the camera and how did they get the jackets... Get a BBQ to cook and heat water. Every time there is a storm and power goes out people complain....but yet again after the next one these same people didn't heed the warnings and prepared beforehand.
kevin November 14, 2012 at 01:39 am
I can tell you firsthand that the LIPA management screwed up big time with this super storm. I also have to say the workers are just as frustrated as the customers there working for. Everyone hates to be without power and that includes the workers. After working long 16 hr shifts we wanted to return home to a nice warm house, but for many that wasn't the case. Last year we had hurricane Irene so that gave the people of Long Island 1 year to buy a generator. Instead they probably spent the money on something like a vacation thinking it won't happen again. Guess what you got screwed this time and you were caught twice with your pants down. Stop relying on LIPA to keep your family warm and safe. Prepare yourself for something a lot worse like and Ice Storm. Long Islanders are so damn spoiled. Let this be a wake up call and prepare yourselves better next time. All the bitching and moaning will not get your lights on any faster. Incase you didn't know favoritism does exist and the powers that be will get taken care of first. Unless you're the one percent be prepared to be without power for a long time.
Susan Gill November 14, 2012 at 01:52 am
Kevin, I have to interpret your comment as a joke . YOu couldn't possibly expect every Long ISlander to buy a generator. My guess is that you are not a Long Islander nor do you work for LIPA. High School in CT? Jr. High School? Long Islanders pay the highest rates for power in the entire country. That makes them entitled to moan when their power company screws up "Big Time." Go back to playing your video games.
Anne Marie November 14, 2012 at 02:06 am
Sure, everyone's frustrated, pissed, resentful, aggrivated, annoyed and the like. But your assumption that we Long Islanders are "so damn spolied...they probably spent the money on something like a vacation thinking it won't happen again...Stop relying on LIPA to keep your family warm and safe...AND All the bitching and moaning will not get your lights on any faster.."
Those assumptions certainly do not apply to the block I live on, darlin'. Matter if fact, my neighbors and I were quick to offer food, refreshments, take along lunches, understanding, consideration and well wishes as well. Guess you weren't a part of the crews that were assigned to Fanning Blvd in Riverhead. Also, when a few friends and I went to a Karaoke spot in Southampton, there were crews from Indiana there and we bought them several rounds out of appreciation for the hard and dangerous work that they do.. guess you weren't there either.. So the next time you feel the urge to vent, just remember that people are people and should be treated as such.. It's understandable that the need to express oneself is this strong, but when you utilize your words to label and hurt prople, the impact may well last longer than even you would realize.

Babylon5 November 14, 2012 at 03:30 pm
The Linemen are not to blame here, they follow orders and do the work allocated to them by management. If anyone is to blame at LIPA, it's management, who should have learned a lesson when Irene hit us last year, but instead, kept cutting back on resources and manpower leaving themselves unprepared for a disaster on this scale.
One of the managers already resigned and once Cuomo starts ripping LIPA apart, more will follow. LIPA serves the people of Long Island as its name implies and failed miserably to keep that vital service up and running. Those who made poor decisions, should get fired as someone needs to be held accountable. This is a prime example of what happens when a billion dollar corporation only thinks about numbers and puts money first ahead of the people they serve.

Isn't this Wendy Kreitzman's husband? Of course, Wendy - the lying editor at the Great NeckRead More Record!!! How cozy of you both - I sent in a letter to Anton Press regarding Wendy's erroneous and biased coverage of Pamela Geller's appearance at the Chabad in Great Neck and never received an answer. I didn't really expect to either. But why would we continue to support establishment candidates when the systems continue to fail, property taxes continue to rise, services continue to decrease, corruption on every level from local to federal exists, and you have a complicit media with your own wife at the helm. I don't think so!
