AvalonBay Launches Website for GN Apartment Proposal

Company anticipates submitting formal application for development to the Village of Great Neck within the coming weeks.

AvalonBay Communities, Inc. launched a new website for its proposed luxury rental apartment community to be located at 240 East Shore Rd. in the Village of Great Neck.

According to a company press release, AvalonBay will clean-up the contaminated site, which is currently a petroleum storage facility, and transform it into new apartments.

“We work closely with public officials to properly execute residents’ wishes and go above and beyond to surpass their expectations,” said Christopher Capece, AvalonBay’s senior development director. “Our goal is to provide luxury rental apartments that will benefit the Great Neck community and offer lifestyle options that will be very attractive to area residents.”

Since the mid-1930's, the property has operated as a petroleum storage facility and currently has an active permit that authorizes its continued operation as major distribution facility. The on-site capacity allows up to 2.5 million gallons of petroleum product to be stored within six, multi-story above-ground tanks, which takes away from the otherwise beautiful landscape. After decades of use, portions of the site are contaminated and will require a complex and expensive remediation before it can be used for other purposes.
