Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Town of North Hempstead seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.
The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 2,500 customers were without power townwide as of 8:18 a.m. Thursday, including 85 in Great Neck Estates and another 36 in Great Neck.
The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.
A high wind advisory is in effect for northern Nassau County through 6 p.m. Thursday.
