USMMA Vessel Docks in Baltimore This Week

T/V Liberator to take part in observance of National Maritime Day event May 17-18.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s training vessel, T/V Liberator will dock in the Port of Baltimore in observance of National Maritime Day this weekend.

Sail Baltimore is providing free dock space at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for the ship as part of the celebration to honor USMMA for their sacrifices and contributions to the nation.

The training vessel, which is used for midshipmen training along the East Coast, will be open for tours May 17-18.

The ship will also dock at Canton’s Pier 13 on Saturday for public tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Midshipmen and USMMA personnel will be on hand at the Maritime Day Expo and Career Fair event with information regarding careers in the maritime industry.

Arriving at the Academy in 2007 after serving first as a training vessel at the United States Naval Academy and then the Office of Naval Resarch, T/V Liberator serves as one of USMMA's most versatile operational platforms, according to the academy website.
