Overweight Sensation: The Life and Comedy of Allan Sherman

Mark Cohen will discuss his new biography, Overweight Sensation: The Life and Comedy of Allan Sherman (Brandeis University Press), released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Sherman's greatest hit, "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh!"

Allan Sherman was the much beloved Jewish song parodist whose chart-topping 1962 album My Son, The Folk Singer lifted him from obscurity to the heights of American celebrity, and "Hello Muddah" was a pop culture phenomenon that capped one of the most sensational winning streaks in American comedy.

Mark Cohen is a writer and speaker specializing in the Jewish-American scene. This program will include performances of musical rarities such as Sherman's lost parody, "There Is Nothing Like A Lox," extensive discussion of Allan Sherman and audience Q&A. (No registration required) (Book Sale and Signing)
