Brush Fire Contolled at Kings Point Park

Companies from across Long Island assisted in battling the blaze.

Firefighters from across Long Island were on the scene battling a major brush fire in Kings Point Park Saturday.

There were no reported injuries and the fire was brought under control Saturday evening, James Hickman, the division supervisor of Nassau County’s Fire Marshal office, told Newsday.

Reports of the brush fire came in at about 10 a.m., and soon after ambulances and firefighting equipment from across Long Island were ready to assist.

Assisting Great Neck Alert Fire Company included those Manhasset-Lakeville, Port Washington, others from the Town of North Hempstead, Glen Cove and elsewhere. New York State forest rangers and the Nassau Office of Emergency Management also provided aid, and a Nassau police helicopter provided infrared equipment to pinpoint “hot spots,” Newsday reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Newsday.
