A Great Neck man has been charged with attempted kidnapping on Thursday at 5:35 p.m. after an incident in Manorhaven, Nassau County Police said.
Third Squad detectives say a man was sitting in a 2008 Chevrolet while parked in his Sintink Drive East driveway when Edward Sedaghati, wearing a ski mask and dark clothing, entered the vehicle on the passenger side. Sedaghati, 29, of Edgewood Place in Great Neck, removed a handgun from a knapsack he was carrying, when a struggle ensued.
The Manorhaven man managed to push Sedaghati out of the car, and took control of the handgun, according to police. A 29-year-old man passing by assisted the Manorhaven resident, holding Sedaghati until police arrived.
Police found an imitation handgun at the scene, and say they also found a gravity knife, duct tape, tie wraps and a bag of marijuana in Sedaghati’s knapsack.
No injuries were reported.
Sedaghati was charged with attempted kidnapping in the second degree, menacing in the second degree, possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was scheduled for arraignment at First Degree Court in Hempstead on Friday.
