9/11 Event Planned at Saddle Rock Bridge

Six Great Neck residents, other victims to be honored during village service Tuesday.

The Village of Saddle Rock will honor the 9/11 victims at a ceremony Tuesday at the Memorial Memorial Bridge.

Six Great Neck peninsula residents died during the attack on the World Trade Center: Jonathan Ielpi, Andrew Stergiopoulos, Peter Frank, Frederick Kuo, Jr., Joshua Vitale and Richard Yun Choon Lee.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

In 2001, the village and Nassau County rededicated the bridge as the “9/11 Memorial Bridge.” The landmark, which features a view to Manhattan, has become a place of vigil and memorial, according to the village website.

A commemorative plaque, placed on the center of the bridge, honors the uniformed personnel, volunteers and private citizens who died during the terrosit attacks.
