Bio: Michelle Schimel, 55, is currently serving her third term in the New York State Assembly representing the 16th District, having first been elected in March 2007. Prior to serving in the Assembly, Schimel was the town clerk of North Hempstead for eight years.

From 1982 to 1994 Schimel was a small business owner, running a fashion accessories firm in Manhattan. She also worked at North Shore University Hospital as a physical therapist and certified wound care specialist.

Schimel has been a resident of Great Neck since 1982. She has two sons.

Education: B.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Allied Medical Professions in 1978.

Opponent: Richard Stiek of Port Washington

District: Parts of Great Neck, Port Washington, Manhasset, Albertson, Roslyn, Garden City Park, North New Hyde Park, Mineola, Old Westbury and Williston Park.
