A large scale project to improve road conditions and drainage on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck will begin within the next 60 days, Nassau County officials said Tuesday.

The plan calls for roadway and drainage improvements from Beverly Road to Preston Street to address decades-old issues concerns in the area. During the project, a concrete box culvert will be built which will provide additional drainage, accordng to statement from Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.

“Working in partnership with Legislator Bosworth and the community, my administration is investing the dollars needed to improve road conditions and drainage on Middle Neck Road," said Mangano.

The work could not have proceeded without the support of Mangano, local elected officials and community leaders, according to Bosworth, who cited climate change a reason why the project is vital to the Great Neck peninsula.

“With changes to weather patterns it has become more apparent than ever how important it is to address the flooding issues along Middle Neck Road,” said Bosworth in a statement.
