Old Village Announces Completion of 2013 Roadway Program

Village officials say the program is ahead of schedule and under budget.

The Village of Great Neck announced Thursday the completion of the 2013 Roadway Program.

Part of the village’s multi-year initiative to rebuild or repave its more than 24 miles of roads, Mayor Ralph Kreitzman said the work is necessary because many  village roads have never been repaved.

“We have been able to save hundreds of thousands of dollars and significantly expand the program,” said Kreitzman, in a news release. “Our goal had been to repave all of our roads in about 30 years. We now hope the program will be completed in less than 20 years."

Village officials say the project was finished under budget by utilizing the Town of North Hempstead’s bid contract to save costs of preparing a bid package and engineering work.

Because of the cost savings, the village says it added roads it planned to pave in 2014 and 2015 and much of that work been completed.

The work on this year's project phase was completed in early spring. Residents who reside on the streets scheduled for the next phase of the project will be notified in the near future, according to the village.

The following village streets have been paved: Baker Hill Road, Bromley Lane, Breuer Avenue, Carlin Place, Church Street, Crampton Avenue, Devonshire Lane, Hemsley Lane, North Gate Road, Patsy Place, Surrey Lane, and portions of Bellingham Lane, Bentley Road, Colgate Road, Croyden Avenue, Duxbury Road, Essex Road, Franklin Road, Hampshire Road, Hartley Road, Maple Street, Piccadilly Road, Plymouth Road, Radnor Road, and Ramsey Road.
