Old Village Waives Sidewalk Repair Permit Fees

Program approved as incentive for residents to complete required sidewalk work.

Village of Great Neck officials have waived all fees and deposits required for sidewalk repairs or replacements — but not the responsibility of the work.

The village board and Mayor Ralph Krietzman voted unanimously at a recent meeting to approve its 7th Annual Sidewalk Sale, which went into effect April 3.

The Sidewalk Sale waives both the permit charges and completion deposits required for residents and businesses of the village when repairing or replacing their sidewalks through the end of 2013.

“The Village Board of Trustees and I believe ensuring a safe environment for our residents, visitors and shoppers is a top priority,” said Kreitzman in a press release. “Several years ago we approved the first sidewalk sale, and since then we renewed the program every year because of the positive feedback we’ve received from our residents and the sale benefits everybody in our village."

While a permit from the village is still required, the permit fee — which is normally $200 — and the completion deposit, which depends on the extent of the work done, are both waived.

"We again will be making a special effort to notify all property owners with sidewalks in need of repair that the work is necessary and pursuing them if it is not promptly applied for and then accomplished,” said Krietzman.
