UPDATE: Halloween Parade Called Off

Parking regulations suspended as well in Great Neck Plaza.

Updated at 1 p.m. Wednesday:

The annual Halloween Parade scheduled for Great Neck Plaza has been called off, according to a statement posted on the village website Wednesday.

Parking regulations have also been suspended in the village Wednesday.

No word yet on the status of the annual Halloween Costume Parade in the Plaza.

Sponsored by the Village of Greck Plaza and the Great Neck Business Improvement District, the children's event is scheduled to take place at the train station on Middle Neck Road starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday and wind downtown to Plaza stores.

The Great Neck Plaza website lists the event as originally scheduled. Mayor Jean Celender was not available for comment Wednesday as of 9 p.m.

Superstorm Sandy has left many in Great Neck without power and many roads blocked by fallen trees.

Schools have been out all week in Great Neck due to the storm.

What do you think? Should the parade go on as planned? Let us know in the comments section.

I hate to disappoint all the kids, but I think the mayors should reschedule trick or treating for a week. I know my kids would understand and they would rather have a big fun day than a mediocre one.
