Elections Tuesday in Six Villages on GN Peninsula

Two incumbent Saddle Rock trustees facing challenges; all other races uncontested.

Six villages on the Great Neck peninsula will hold elections Tuesday.

Most of the races will be uncontested, except in Saddle Rock, where incumbent trustees Mark Collins and David Schwartz will face off against Independent Party of the Village of Saddle Rock challengers Shlomo “Mony” Zenou and Hamid “Ben” Sharifiazad. 

Saddle Rock Mayor Dan Levy is running uncontested for reelection.

Mayor Matthew Bloomfield will not seek re-election in Russell Gardens after four years in office. Former Mayor Steven Kirschner will run unopposed to regain the mayoral position he held from 2003 to 2009.

In Kensington, Darren Kaplan will run unopposed to fill the seat of Deputy Mayor Gail Strongwater, who is not seeking re-election. Incumbent Trustee Alina Hendler is running unopposed.

In the village of Thomaston, longtime Mayor Robert Stern, Deputy Mayor Steven Weinberg and Trustee Gary Noren are running unopposed for re-election. After being appointed as trustee in May, To-On Pang is running unopposed for his first elected term.

In the village of Great Neck Plaza, longtime incumbent Trustee Gerry Schneiderman and newcomer Lawrence Katz are running unopposed.

Katz is seeking his first elected term on the board after being appointed to replace former Trustee Marion Green in December.

Great Neck Estates Mayor David Fox, Deputy Mayor William Warner and Trustee Sidney Krugman are each running unopposed for reelection.

Polls in Great Neck Plaza will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at village hall. Polling places in the remaining five village halls open at noon and close at 9 p.m.

The villages of Kings Point, Great Neck and Lake Success will hold elections in June.
