Record-Breaking Day For USMMA at Conference Meet

Merchant Marine Academy holds big lead heading into final day of competition.

With five wins in the six individual Landmark Conference Championship event finals, including several record-breaking performances, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy dominated the field Saturday in Scranton, Penn.

Breaking USMMA, conference, and pool records while making a NCAA "B" cut in the 800 free relay.

Winning by more than 22 seconds, the relay team consisted of Kevin Lindgren, Alvaro Brice, Blake Krell and Joshua McCormick who broke academy and conference record by more than two seconds.

Senior Scott from Andover, Kansas, set a meet record in the 400 individual medley and placed first in the 400 IM.  

Academy sophomore Lindgren of Palm City, Fla., topped the field in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

In the 200 freestyle as Brice, from The Woodlands, Texas, broke a meet record, with USMMA swimmers claimed the top-three spots on the podium.  

Freshman William Porter from Houston, Texas, set a pool record in the 3-meter diving competition as the rookie swept the diving events in his first Landmark Conference Championships. 

The Mariners hold a 217 point advantage over second-place Susquehanna entering the final day of competition Sunday.
