4 USMMA Swimmers Make NCAA's

Mariner diver expected to make the cut as well after qualifying meet this weekend.

Four U.S. Merchant Marine Academy swimmers have been invited to compete in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, with a fifth competitor expected to make the cut in diving.

Floridians Kevin Lindgren of Palm City and Sean Minor of Fort Myers, Alvaro Brice of The Woodlands, Texas, and Joshua McCormick of Granite Bay, Calif., will represent USMMA at the swimming championships March 20-23 in Shenandoah, Texas, the academy announced this week.

"We are excited that we will be swimming seven races at the NCAA Championships," said USMMA Head Coach Sean Tedesco, in a press release. "Our team has worked hard all year and it is nice to see that effort pay off."

Lindgren, the Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Year, is seeded third overall in the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 100 backstroke. Lindgren, who made a NCAA 'A' cut in both of those events, will also swim the 200 individual medley.

Minor is seeded 28th in the 50 freestyle.

Lindgren and Minor will be joined by relay teammates Brice and McCormick as the 16th seed in the 400 freestyle relay, an event in which they claimed gold at the Landmark and Metropolitan Championships. The quartet is also eligible to swim in the 200 and 800 freestyle relays.

Landmark Conference Diver of the Year William Porter of Houston, Texas, competes this weekend at the NCAA regional qualifying in Springfield, Mass.
