USMMA Beats Rival SUNY Maritime in Men's Lacrosse

Mariners pull to 2-2 on the season heading into Landmark Conference play.

In a rivaly game, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team beat SUNY Maritime Wednesday.

Helping in the 13-3 victory, eight Mariners scored for USMMA (2-2), including senior midfielder Sean Sheehy from Annapolis, Md., with his first goal of the season, and freshman attacker Robert Tirrito of Centerport, N.Y., netting his first career goal. 

Sophomore Geoff Harty of Chicago, led USMMA in scoring, with three goals and five assists.

Goalkeeper Alex Peyreigne of Weston, Conn., stopped 12 of the 15 shots on net to stay on top in Landmark Conference save percentage at 65.5 percent.

The Mariners outshot the Privateers 48-28, had eight less turnovers than Maritime (2-5), and converted 25 percent of their man-up attempts.

Merchant Marine will open Landmark Conference play March 16 when they host the Catholic University Cardinals (3-5, 0-0) at 1:30 p.m.
