USMMA Men's Hoops Fighting For Playoff Birth

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team kept it's playoff hopes alive Saturday with a road win against Goucher College.

In critical Landmark Conference game, the Mariners defeated Goucher, 61-52, in Towson.

The win, fueled by strong performances from Reed Buck of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Nick Sergio of Patchogue, N.Y., helped to put USMMA (11-10) one game behind Susquehanna for the final conference postseason berth. 

The Mariners built a first half advantage on the strength of a 16-2 run that gave USMMA a 35-23 halftime lead before Goucher (5-15) battled back to keep the game close.

With four games remaining on the schedule, the Merchant Marine team hosts Moravian Wednesday at 7 p.m. at O'Hara Hall in Kings Point.
