USMMA Runner Places First at Coast Guard Meet

Gretchen Holoubek clocks fastest female one mile run time since 2005 for Mariners.

United States Merchant Marine Academy senior Gretchen Holoubek placed first in the one mile run with a personal best performance Saturday at a Coast Guard tri-meet in New London, Conn. 

Holoubek, of Severna Park, Md., won the event by more than five seconds with a time of 5:33.23. 

It was Holoubek's fastest time by 17 seconds and the fastest one mile run by a female Mariner since 2005.

Holoubek is currently seventh on the all-time best time list at the USMMA behind Callie Beeler ('05) and Chrissy Anderson ('02), who combine to hold the top six spots.

"I'm very happy with the effort overall; especially some of our seniors," said USMMA head coach Gregg Lott in a release.

The Mariners continue their indoor track and field season in the Landmark Conference with a meet at the Wesleyan Invitational Jan. 19.
