USMMA Sports Hall of Fame Adds 7

Merchant Marine Academy HOF to induct seven sports stars during Homecoming weekend.

Homecoming weekend will take on special significance for seven new inductees to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Athletic Hall of Fame

The 15th induction class in USMMA history features: All-American wrestler Les Kempf  (Class of 1967); football standouts Tyler Caruso (’70) and Chris Fiore (’86), basketball’s John Doherty (’89), volleyball and swimming star Michelle May Porter (’95), All-American sailor Bill Hardesty (’98) and former USMMA volleyball coach Jim Hettenbach.

“I have been very fortunate to be present for every Hall of Fame induction since its inception in 1990,” AD Sue Petersen Lubow said. “In my 34 years at the Academy, it’s been an honor and privilege to, literally, watch the careers of our accomplished athletes and coaches. This group is no stranger to success and it’s going to be special to celebrate this wonderful achievement with them.”
