USMMA Swimmer Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

Kevin Lindgren finishes second at NCAA's setting new academy and conference records in 400 backstoke.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy swimmer Kevin Lindgren placed second in the 200 backstroke to earn his second All-America award of the 2013 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships this past weekend in Shanandoah, Texas.

Lindren, a sophomore from Palm City, Fla., reestablished his own USMMA and Landmark Conference records with a time of 1:45.72. He was edged out by Michael Brus of Grinnell, who set a new NCAA Division III record with a time of 1:44.81 earning him the national title according to usmmasports.com.

USMMA's 400 freestyle relay team of Lindgren, Sean Minor, Alvaro Brice, Blake Krell and Joshua McCormick finished 16th, earning the team Honorable Mention All-American status.

Earlier in the championships, Lindgren placed fourth in the 100 backstroke, just .17 seconds behind Dylan Davis of Johns Hopkins, who finished first.
