Get involved and share your experiences on Patch.

This weekend, scores of cancer survivors and local volunteers will sport purple and white t-shirts and walk for hours around a track to raise money for cancer research in one of the most iconic fundraisers in the country.

In Great Neck, The American Cancer Society will hold its local Relay for Life event at Great Neck North High School on June 1 from 5 p.m. until midnight. According to the event website, 29 teams and 143 particiants have raised more than $6,500 to date. Click here for more details and information on how to get involved.

Relay For Life events happen in thousands of places across the country, and feature an overnight relay that both raises money for the cause and honors local cancer survivors.

Are you planning to walk this weekend? Patch would love to help you share photos or experiences from the event so we can capture the full impact of the relay in town.

The easiest way is to just visit The Boards, and upload photos and sentiments there. Want to thank a local volunteer, cheer on a teammate or share a great photo of the opening ceremony, the luminaria ceremony or the walk itself? Post them right there for the entire community to celebrate.
