Firefighters Pull Rabbit From Thomaston House Fire Wednesday

No injuries reported in Great Neck blaze.

Manhasset-Lakeville firefighters responded Wednesday to a house fire in the Village of Thomaston — a few doors down from their firehouse on the same street.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, but the quick response of rescue personnel who traveled less than one block helped save the life a rabbit named Dutchy that was pulled from the first floor of the smoke-filled house.

Three companies from Manhaset-Lakeville and a fire assistance team (FAST) unit from the Great Neck Vigilant Engine Hook and Ladder Company responded to the scene after a call came at about 10:17 a.m. from a neighbor regarding a possible structure fire at 14 Prospect St., according to a fire department official.

As emergency responders arrived, a neighbor was using a garden hose to fight the flames, according to the fire department.

Emergency responders were on scene for about 40 minutes controlling the blaze which was centered in the upper level of the home.

Dutchy is resting safely after being moved to another location, according to the fire department.
